Fletcher Andrews + Click To Enter + If I told you how long I've been in love with the drums I'd sound like an old man, yet I think of myself as a youngster - with so much more to learn, to experience, and so many more mountains to climb. Daily life for me has always been filled with non-stop rhythmic perceptions. I just can't turn them off. As such drums have helped me creatively channel these impulses into a semi-acceptable social outlet. I've also channeled part of my rhythmic passion into rock and ice climbing, mountaineering, skiing, hiking, kayaking, cycling...In either zone, the vertical or behind a drum kit, I feel complete. I love the physical-ness of drums and percussion, the power and yet the sensitive subtlety and texture. A silent drum is loaded with unlimited possibilities to create and in my experience every person who awakens an instrument finds different ways of tapping into these - from a child banging with wild abandon to a great player finessing complex patterns, sounds and textures with expressive grace. Rhythm lies at the very core of each and everyone of us; the steady pulse of our hearts, the movement of air in and out of our bodies. The very essence of universal matter involves vibration. Rhythmic patterns are an expression of life, a form of orgranized chaos. And rhythm combined with melody can express the complexity of human expression and experience. In a sense rhythm is the basic structure of music like the roots, stems, & branches of a plant - flowers are the melody. I feel fortunate having the privilege of expressing myself through drums; but it is my musical friends I owe great thanks to, for without their gift of melody I couldn't fully realize the best part of music - connection and communication. Thus I'd like to express my eternal gratitude to each and everyone of you I've had the pleasure to share music with. OK if you've made it this far you are thinking, "This guy is out there;" or "Right on, I can relate." Either way I hope you've found some form of creative expression in your life which enriches your soul and adds spice to your life. Peace be with you. |
